I’ve been automating things with the Twitter API and Python. Since it’s tedious to Google every time or output the contents of tweepy’s status object to check, I’m writing this as a reference note.

Prerequisites

You need to have applied for Twitter API access and obtained the following keys and tokens:

  • Consumer_key
  • Consumer_secret
  • Access_token
  • Access_secret

Here are the most commonly used fields:

status.id Unique tweet ID
status.in_reply_to_status_id Tweet ID of the reply target
status.retweet_count Number of retweets
status.favorite_count Number of likes
status.user.name User name
status.user.screen_name Screen name (@zatoima1)
status.user.friends_count Number of accounts following
status.user.followers_count Number of followers
status.user.description Bio
